Howard Zinn
Howard Zinn was a multifaceted figure who wore many hats throughout his life.
Born into poverty, he worked as a shipyard laborer before becoming a bombardier in World War II. After the war, he pursued higher education, eventually earning a Ph.D. from Columbia University.
Zinn's career as an educator included teaching at Spelman College and Boston University, as well as visiting professorships in Europe.
Beyond academia, he was known for his work as a historian, playwright, and social activist.
Zinn's contributions were recognized with several awards, including the Thomas Merton Award and the Lannan Literary Award.
He resided in Auburndale, Massachusetts until his passing.
