Gerald Graff
Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein are the authors of "They Say / I Say." Graff is a professor of English and education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, known for his work on academic writing and literacy.
Birkenstein is a lecturer in English at UIC. Together, they developed the "They Say / I Say" approach to help students engage in academic discourse.
Their book has become widely used in composition courses across the United States.
Graff has also written other books on education and literacy, and has served as president of the Modern Language Association.
