She graduated from Yale University and earned an MFA from the University of Michigan.
Her debut novel, The Historian, became a bestseller in 2005.
Kostova is married to a Bulgarian scholar and created the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation to support Bulgarian literature and cultural exchange.
