Anne Inez McCaffrey was a pioneering American science fiction and fantasy author, best known for her Dragonriders of Pern series.
She made history as the first woman to win both a Hugo Award and a Nebula Award for fiction.
McCaffrey's novel The White Dragon achieved mainstream success, becoming one of the first science fiction books to appear on the New York Times Best Seller list.
Recognized for her contributions to the genre, she was named a Grand Master by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in 2005 and inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2006.
McCaffrey's work also earned her the Robert A. Heinlein Award in 2007.
