Alisa Roth
Alisa Roth is an investigative journalist who spent a year studying the plight of mentally ill prisoners in the U.S. Criminal Justice System as a 2014-2015 'Soros Justice Fellow'.
She visited jails and prisons in multiple states, interviewing mentally ill subjects, their families, and experts.
Roth also examined medical and jail records, court reports, and other public documents.
Her research revealed that almost every correctional facility in the country has a large number of prisoners with mental illness.
Roth's work focuses on exposing the inadequacies of the current system and advocating for change in how mentally ill individuals are treated within the criminal justice system.
